For some, the time for consolation and pain may now be over, and replaced with a desire to do something—about our own pain, and about the pain of others. Otherwise, who will? But there is resistance. Offred remembers life before the revolution, and works, as the novel goes on, to shake her indoctrination and the oppressive eye of the state, and perhaps, to carve some agency for herself back into the world.

Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. In this volume, Espada embodies the voices of America—from immigrant workers to students to people of color killed by police to children killed by guns to his own father.

A beautiful ode to America and all of her failures—and triumphs. Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were heading for shore. Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need For this bright morning dawning for you. History, despite its wrenching pain, Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage, Need not be lived again.

Lift up your eyes upon The day breaking for you. Give birth again To the dream. Women, children, men, Take it into the palms of your hands. Mold it into the shape of your most Private need. Sculpt it into The image of your most public self. Lift up your hearts. Each new hour holds new chances For new beginnings. Do not be wedded forever To fear, yoked eternally To brutishness. The horizon leans forward, Offering you space to place new steps of change.

I know, I know, The Hunger Games. But look: these books are about the possibility of joining forces to rise up against the ridiculous, buffoonish, strangely colored overlords who oppress, use, and mock the working class. This seems to me to be relevant at the moment. Elizabeth Jaquette. But a doctor trying to save a man shot in the uprising must make a decision about whether to follow the rules or flout them.

Written in by transgender rights activist Leslie Feinberg, this novel is itself a revolution. Feinberg died in This classic novel is an unflinching look at the life of a young black man in Chicago in the s, a man whose life has been ruined by racism, poverty, and the American society he cannot escape. From turning snakes into spaghetti and clouds into cotton balls, writing poetry is absolutely magical! After our initial kick-off day, we began a weekish exploring our senses to write awesome poetry.

This week was all about incorporating the arts and we listened to must-know artists [as classified by ME] while we wrote. As students explore their senses, we took five days to learn about adjectives associated with each sense.

Having students explore concrete objects and then, write about them was a perfect way to start. Plus, our class anchor charts quickly became a fabulous resource while students were writing. I ended up taking pictures of each anchor chart and students glued copies into their writing journals as a reference! Our second-thirdish weeks have been spent on learning about different types of figurative language and then, students applying them to their current poems. We specifically focused on alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia, simile, and metaphor.

During this week we read some awesome poems. My favorite is The Cafeteria which was written by a group of elementary students. My friends loved the idea that the cafeteria was a jungle and they were the wild animals!

Exploring many different types of figurative language, I created a set of mentor poems. Each poem zooms in on one type of figurative language so students have an explicit model. Poetry is Crafting Words Then, in our third week, we focused on fine tuning our poems noticing things such as line breaks, removing extra words, adding powerful —ing verbs, and poem vs.

Staged: Act Out A Poem

Poem vs. Story has definitely been our toughest battle.

One morning, I handed each table group the same set of words and asked them to make a poem. Very simple instructions; a very cool task. Students worked for minutes as groups deciding the just-right places for words and line breaks. After all the poems were finished, friends practiced chorus reading and then, at the end of the construction block students shared their poems with the class.

It was really neat to hear 5 totally different poems and hit home the idea that word placement and line breaks matter! I choose to use 25 words and it was A LOT! Next time, I would definitely try ]. Throughout the week, we also kept some great books by our side. Of course, no unit of study would be complete without one of my favorite resources — Brain Pop Jr. We really gave it a workout and spent some quality time with Annie and Moby learning about Poems, Similes, and Our Senses.

No more advices, no more cautioning: I leave it all to fate to any thiIf we cannot laugh at ourselves, life will become a dull and stifling experience. Life can be a challenge; of that there is no doubt. But if we take a moment to stop and see the joke, we can change our entire day. To those that take life seriously, we may see humor as an obstacle in our paths.

Symbolism in drama

The truth is that jokes are funny because they contain a grain of truth about life that would not be able to be shown through any other medium. A funny joke or poem has the power to point out subtle ironies of life that I might get shot in the head for if I were to say them straight out. Humor has the capacity to point absurdities about the way we live our lives in a non-threatening way.

Grade 5: Act a Poem in Drama Class

It's dedicated to all those poor souls out there that at one point in their lives forgot their girlfriend's birthday. I'm sure it wasn't pretty. Today was my girlfriend's birthday, and I forgot about her gift. I was worried she'd find out, with punishment that's swift. When I heard the door bell, my sweat combined with stress. Her reaction and disappointment, I tried not to think nor guess.

It was way too late to drive, to the flower shop or store. I wished her happy birthday, as I opened the front door. I told her to sit down, and simply just relax. While thinking of a plan, my brain was at its max. Said I'll be right back, as I ran into my room. Quickly went online, hoping to avoid my doom. I ordered that weird looking, purple and black purse. Printed out a birthday card, and added a sweet verse.

Gave her the freshly printed card, with a hug and a long nice kiss. She was more than happy, I knew she was in bliss. I tried my best to explain, the purse will be a bit late. She said that it's alright, she doesn't mind to wait. As I smiled in relief, I woke up from this dream. Realized it's her birthday, and began to run and scream. I had a lot of fun reading this submitted zip sled poem.

You should read it as well, it's quite funny. Alright, let's move onto the next poem. I think most of us will be able to relate to it, and especially if you're under Walking down the street, her head is facing down. Concentrating very hard, she sports a heavy frown. Searching on her phone, for the closest hair salon. She walks by the first one, as grandpa gives a yawn.

Her phone is acting up, she's getting quite upset. Walks right by the second one, which is right next to the vet. Suddenly the battery dies, and her face engulfs concern. Helpful people walk right by, at every single turn.
